The movie itself boasts some decent animation, but the film can't shake that video game feel. All the details and exposition that get tacked onto the narrative here really aren't very necessary and only add confusion and frustration while slowing the pace.
There's enough story and character here for a solid 80-85-minute picture. Why the producers of these films feel the need to pad the narrative to an overblown 100 minutes is beyond puzzling. Much like Degeneration, though, the film does get bogged down by the plot, and practically slows to a halt in the middle act as layer upon layer are added to the clunky, convoluted plot. And the film is quite fun, with some fantastic action sequences, and even a few solid scares. Rather, this film is basically one large fan service, allowing longtime lovers of the Resident Evil franchise a chance to see both Ada Wong and Leon S. The film offers no introduction to the characters whatsoever, and the plot offers little room for newcomers to get to know our heroes and villains. Unfortunately, Damnation really isn't a good starting point for newcomers. Meanwhile, Ada Wong is back and up to no good, attempting to retrieve a sample of the Plaga (among other things). Kennedy (acting more and more like Snake Plissken each time we see him) as he travels into a small Eastern European country and discovers that B.O.W.s (Bio Organic Weapons) are being dispatched to aide in war. Designed to be a sort of marketing tool for the release of Resident Evil 6 ( review here), Damnation follows resident badass Leon S. The latest CG-animated adaptation is Resident Evil: Damnation. It was dampened by a mediocre story, video game-like animation and a few weird switches in character motivations, not to mention a tremendously slow middle act. Anderson films, it also failed to capture the essence of the video games. While Degeneration was a marked improvement over the Paul W.S. Then there's the animated franchise, which started with Resident Evil: Degeneration, back in 2008 ( review here).
